Sarah Wheel

My name is Sarah Tucker, I was born and raised in Naperville. I played soccer growing up, made beautiful messes, typical kid stuff. I graduated from University of Illinois in 2000 with a double major in English and Rhetoric, and a minor in Philosophy.

Then I waited tables. My friends and I started a non-profit artist’s collective based in Chicago, in 2002, we ran a venue, art gallery, and produced live music shows, we still help artists network and find each other, and help them promote quality art of all forms, to this very day. We don’t get paid, because it’s really the art we care about. For money I worked as a preschool teacher for 5 years with 2 and 3 year-olds. Teaching was a good fit, but after becoming infected with all sorts of kid viruses from pink eye to hand foot and mouth, I knew I needed something else. I discovered Bikram Yoga in Naperville in January of 2005.

When I started the yoga I was out of shape, ate poorly, lacked energy, suffered anxiety, stress, asthma, allergies, IBS, and leftover lumbar pain from two car accidents in 1998 and 1999. Unhealthy at best.

I was amazed at the first class I took; my world was rocked. I was looking around me as I struggled and suffered the torture chamber for the first time and marveled at the people around me older and younger just rocking the class out like it wasn’t even hard. I knew I wanted to get to that point--to make the series look effortless, so I buckled down, got serious, and never looked back. The night of my first class I had tossing and turning in sleep kind of dreams, where I kept hearing look back go back way back more back fall back, and I knew I had just found the inspiration that was lacking in my life for a long time. I started going to class all the time and couldn’t get enough. I knew I wanted to make Bikram yoga a part of my life forever. I went to and graduated from Bikram yoga teacher training in spring of 2006. Bikram yoga has healed my body and brought the mind back to the brain, I am ever grateful, I have changed so much and in so many ways for the better. I was the 2007 Illinois Regional Yoga Asana champ, and had a great time competing and learning how to be a better yogi.

I love teaching the yoga, I love being a student especially. I strive to give people a positive experience, a smile through the sweat, and a chuckle in trikinasana. Hooray for second chances. Namaste!
